The sharp geographic differences between Patagonian steppe and the Andes cordillera are the cause of the sharp climatic differences from East to West which determine the existence of woods toward the West and the steppe toward the East. While the climate in the mountains is mild-cold, moderated by the influence of the Pacific Ocean, the climate in the Patagonian steppe is cold, reaching temperatures of -15ºC in winter. In summer, temperatures range between 9ºC and 25ºC. (average values) and in winter, between 1ºC and 8ºC, with temperatures lower than 0ºC.

Summer: Days are warm and sunny and nights are cool. During the day temperature may vary from 9ºC to 27ºC, which means you can fully enjoy outdoor activities, including beach activities on the shores of the lakes. Scarce winds mainly from the SW and few rainy days. Due to its latitude, daylight extends up to 10 p.m.

Fall: Days are mild-cool and nights are cold. During the day, temperatures may vary between 4ºC and 13ºC. This is the rainiest season and in general, with gentle rains during the night.

Winter: Cold days with snowfalls in the surrounding mountains, which do not affect traffic in the town. During the day, temperatures range between 1ºC and 10ºC.

Spring: Days are still cool and nights cold. Days become longer and longer and temperatures rise gradually during the day, reaching marks between 7ºC and 20ºC by the end of the season.

Rain
In San Martin de los Andes, the rainy season is from March to December and the dry season is summer. It rains around 60 inches per year. The gradient goes from the West, with 158 inches per year toward the East, with 23 inches in the steppe. This is because rains fall mainly on the cordillera. Precipitation may be rain in fall and spring and snow in winter, depending on the altitude.

Firearms
The entry to and exit from the country by FOREIGNERS or ARGENTINIANS SETTLED ABROAD bearing firearms will be made by submitting the following documents:

Consulat permit
Individuals who wish to go into the country with one or more firearms and their ammunition, with the proposal to perform hunting activity, sporting shooting or other legitimate purpose, will have to submit application at the origin country Argentine Consulate, holding the equivalent legal possess authorization extended by the local authority, identification document or passport, requiring the applicable “temporary authorization and temporary possess permit” of corresponding material, during their stay in Argentina.

If the tourist arrived at Argentina without the “temporary authorization and temporary possess permit”, drawn up by the Argentine Consulate, the Police authority that takes part will give the applicable temporary authorization and temporary possess permit during the stay in the country, ad-referendum of the National Registry of Firearms.

The temporary authorization and temporary possess permit, duly signed and stamped by the local Police authority, will enable the tourist to possess, transport and use the firearms and “live” ammunition for the legitimate activity and during the authorized time period.
When leaving the country, the individual will have to apply at the competent Policy authority, which will verify the exit of the corresponding firearms and alive ammunition and will keep the temporary authorization and temporary possess permit. If any temporary corresponding firearms and live ammunition is left in Argentina, the individual will have to justify that circumstance with the due documents.

Additional fees
The Government of Argentina charges all U.S., Canadian and Australian citizens an entry fee upon arrival in the country. This fee applies to business and tourism travelers and is collected by Argentine Immigration officials at the Buenos Aires Ezeiza International Airport. The new fee is the result of a decree signed by the president of Argentina requiring a “reciprocity fee” from nationals of countries that charge Argentine citizens a visa fee (Argentina does not require visas for business and tourism travel). U.S. citizens must now pay $131 to enter the country, while Australians pay $100 and Canadians pay $70. The policies precisely mirror the visa policies of the U.S., Canada and Australia.
